White Horse Advisors is
a leading firm in the area of exit planning services to
owners of closely-held businesses and retirement plan sponsors.
White Horse Advisors educates business owners about the advantages of succession
planning and assist clients in developing solutions in areas such
as exit strategies, estate planning, business continuity,
retirement plans and investment strategies. White Horse Advisors
sought to better understand the triggers that cause an owner to
begin the exit planning process, as well as the decision process
of selecting a succession planning advisor and exit planning
services provider.
To that end, White Horse Advisors
commissioned CMI to conduct the 2008 White Horse Advisors Survey
of Closely-Held Business Owners. |

ExitPlanningResearch.com Survey Methodology |
| The
research was conducted with a random selection of business owners
across the country, pulled from membership of Vistage
International.
Vistage groups meet monthly, affording the opportunity to
administer the paper surveys to the entire group of owners.
The survey was
conducted between October 2007 and February 2008.
A total of 58 groups
participated in the study, representing 444 survey respondents.
Significance testing
is conducted at the 95% confidence level. At this confidence
level, the data from 444 surveys has a precision level of
+/-4.65%.
CMI worked with White
Horse Advisors to develop a survey instrument to meet the
objectives of the study. A copy of the survey is included in the
appendix.
